My Services.

It is about Conversations, It is about Wishes.

Advance Care Planning is a process of reflection and communication. It is a time for you to reflect on your values and wishes, and to let people know what kind of health and personal care you would want in the future if you were unable to speak for yourself. I will walk you through this process either online or on paper.

We can put your Advance Care Planning and Advance Directive, in a safe place; the "life Box" that will help you organize. Also your Will, Power of Attorney, Representation Agreement, life Insurance documentation, copies of financial documents, copies of property documents, copies or numbers of identification documents, and online passwords will let your loved ones know where to find them.

A large part of what I can do is help document or create a way for you to review your life. Your accomplishments and what brought your life meaning. This review is for your purposes of reflection and to create a legacy for your family and friends after you die.  The ways we can do this together can be explored through your preferences. Life review and legacy work can involve video or audio recordings, written documents, letters to loved ones, scrapbooks, memory textiles, the list goes on! There are several ways we can use apps and technology or we can do old-school handwriting and photo books. The choices are limitless. We can explore events in your life together that have given you the greatest satisfaction and meaning or reflect on values and traits that you wish to convey to future generations. Ideally, this work would be initiated well before your last days of life but, even in the case of imminent death, there are things we can do to preserve a legacy for your loved ones.

Having myself as an End of Life Doula is to have a knowledgeable companion to be present with a loved one with a life-limiting illness. This can be when there is a first diagnosis or when death is imminent, many families choose to be at their loved one's side around the clock. End of Life Doulas can assist you during this time in several ways. We can be additional support for you to talk to while you're sitting with your loved one; we can coordinate family vigil schedules so someone can always be present; we can provide respite for you, and stay with your loved one while you take a break but you don't want to leave your loved one alone; we can assist with communication with hospice providers, funeral homes, and others who need to be notified, including family members; and we can assist you in organizing any family rituals you might have around the time of death.

Coaching is ideal for addressing personal transformation, acceptance, and the ritualistic aspects of moving through loss. Recovery after bereavement takes time; for some, the grieving process may take much longer than others. There is no set schedule for grieving, and there should be no pressure to ‘move on.” Grief work is not about getting over the loss. Quite the opposite, in fact. While caught in the grip of grief, it’s unlikely that one can even begin to imagine "accepting the loss." Grief coaching, an untapped non-therapeutic paradigm, shifts the perspective that grief is an illness that needs to be treated, fixed, or cured. Instead, it empowers individuals to open themselves up to allow the normal and natural responses to loss … permitting themselves to grieve. Thereafter, helping them to navigate through and thrive in their sense of new normalcy. Grief coaching does not infer, provide, or replace professional counseling, therapy, or mental health services.

IN THE END, IT'S NOT THE YEARS IN YOUR LIFE THAT COUNT. IT'S THE LIFE IN YOUR YEARS.
